Community Care Partnership of Maine (CCPM), an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) comprised of 15 health care organizations throughout Maine, is pleased to announce the achievement of shared savings in its third year of participation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). For the 2018 performance year, CCPM achieved $17,459,697 in total savings for Medicare, with $7,426,177 in shared savings returned to CCPM and its member organizations. CCPM and its member organizations, all of which are federally qualified health centers or community hospitals, will use the performance payment to invest in infrastructure aimed to achieve continued improvements in the delivery of high-quality patient care.

CCPM’s success in MSSP has grown exponentially over the last three performance years (2016-2018). Outlined in the graph below is the total savings generated by CCPM for Medicare (blue line) and the savings amount returned to CCPM and its member organizations (green line) each year.

“I am so proud of our tremendous success in the Medicare Shared Savings Program over the last three years. It is truly a testament to our member organizations’ dedication to CCPM’s mission to deliver high-quality, patient-centered and cost-effective care to the people of Maine,” said Mary Prybylo, CEO of Community Care Partnership of Maine and President of St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor. CCPM serves over 16,500 Medicare beneficiaries and is required to meet certain quality and performance metrics in the delivery of care for those patients, including in areas of patient/caregiver experience, care coordination and patient safety, preventive health, and treatment of at-risk populations with chronic disease as part of CCPM’s participation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program.

Doctors, hospitals and health care providers establish ACOs in order to work together to provide higher-quality coordinated care to their patients, while helping to slow the cost growth in providing services. Community Care Partnership of Maine is currently one of 518 ACOs participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program. Shared Savings Program ACOs collectively serve 10.9 million beneficiaries annually. ACOs receive a portion of the savings generated from cost savings, as long as they also meet the established standards for high quality care.
